Yankees Call Up Jasson Domínguez for Little League Classic
The New York Yankees are bringing up their promising outfield talent, Jasson Domínguez, as their 27th player ahead of Sunday night's Little League Classic against the Detroit Tigers. Both teams are allowed an additional player for this special event, and the Yankees have chosen to tap into their minor league pool for Domínguez's skill set.
Domínguez, who made his major league debut late in the 2023 season, quickly made an impression before an unfortunate elbow injury led to Tommy John surgery. Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman spoke about Domínguez's journey and his readiness to contribute when needed. "He's healthy. Ultimately, the injuries this year prevented him from getting much of a bulk of performance... It's nice to know he's available to us if need be," Cashman said. The Yankees' GM went on to highlight Domínguez's versatility, noting, "He's done multiple positions in his career. He's just waiting in the wings. Hungry and waiting to see if he gets his chance." For now, Domínguez is slated to play mostly in centerfield but is also set to showcase his skills in left field.
With a tight race in the American League East, the Yankees look to maintain their edge over the Baltimore Orioles, currently holding a one-game lead as of Sunday. Adding Domínguez to the roster for the Little League Classic gives the team additional depth, even if temporarily. Due to the game's unique rules, Domínguez will have to return to the minors after the Classic. Nevertheless, he remains eligible for recall should the Yankees need his services again, ready to fill any open roster spot that may arise.

Cashman highlighted the importance of having players like Domínguez at the ready. "There's currently no lane for us to bring him. It's nice to know he's there.
